The tradition of brewing beer in Český Krumlov goes back to the very beginnings of the town. The first written documentation is a deed from the reeve Michal from 1336.
The increasing rate of beer consumption seemed to be reason enough to utilize the former estates of Anna of Roggendorf, mother of Wilhelm and Peter Wok von Rosenberg (Wilhelm von Rosenberg, Petr Wok von Rosenberg), for a new brewery. The estates, which since 1594 had been used for the Rožmberk armoury, were reconstructed from 1625-30 by townsman Václav Vlach into the new buildings of today's brewery. The new owner of Krumlov's castle and dominion, Johann Ulriich von Eggenberg, heralded the brewery into operation in 1630. The Czech Eggenberg property was inherited by the Schwarzenberg family in 1719, which meant a very significant age for the history of the brewery in that it was expanded to the form which we know today.

Brewery production
Eggenberg Brewery produces five types of beer distributed on the market under the name of Eggenberg. Light beers are light beer, light lager beer, dark lager beer, and diabetic beer. Special dark beer with its characteristic caramel hops bitterness is produced from special colored malts. The beer is distributed in 0.5 liter and 0.33 liter bottles, packaged in company containers. Light lager beer is also available in 0.33 liter cans.
Keg beer is delivered in noncorrosible 50-liter or 30-liter kegs.
Nonalcoholic products come mainly in small packages of nonalcoholic drinks in 0.33 liter bottles, in a selection of low-calorie orange sodas, colas, and tonics. The selection is further supplemented by soda water, orange sodas, colas, tonics and nonalcoholic drinks for athletes and youth, using a malt extract Marathon. All being sold under trademark Eggenberg. The brewery delivers orange sodas to restaurant facilities in noncorrosible 50-liter and 30-liter kegs. Our own source of high quality water is used for the production of soft drinks.
During the short existence of the brewery under the name of Eggenberg (since 1991), our beer has become a favorite mostly in the region of the brewery, but has also gained renown in many competitions of Czech and Slovak beers.

Besides supplying the Czech Republic, the brewery also exports its products, mainly to countries of the former USSR and Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Spain, Canary Islands.
EGGENBERG BREWERY ranks among the category of Small Independent Breweries with an annual production capacity of 200 000 hectoliters. It is also a member of the Czech Union of Breweries and Malt Houses.
EGGENBERG BREWERY takes part in sponsoring prominent cultural and sporting events as well as sponsoring certain sporting divisions.
