THE SCULPTURE AND THE JEWEL

International Gallery of Fine Art (Wenceslas Cellars, IVth Castle Courtyard) The aim of the exhibition is to present to general public contemporary authorial works of Czech jewel in the context of 15th year of international exhibition of contemporary sculpture.PhDr. Alena Křížová PhD.is the courator of Czech jewel exhibition and the author of the publication called "Changes of Czech jewels in the end of 20th century" and PhDr. Petra Binková PhD.who was the exhibition curator of previous years is the curator of contemporary sculpture collection. Within the framework of the exhibition open days in international art studio called "Do not knock, it is open" are organized. The open days offer thematic evenings and digital projection for public. The authors and their guests will participate in the event. The exhibition opening is on 29th March in 2 p.m. with the the authors´ and their guests´participation.

The project´s thought General public consider contemporary fine art exhibitions usually realized to be culture devoted for charmed circle, above all for invited individuals. The other problem people face is the high price of the admission they are not willing to overcome and in case their children are interested in modern art they consider it to be useless. Our longterm experience with the realization of the exhibitions and other cultural projects visited mainly by Czech and foreign tourists led us to change the form we are dealing with for a long time. A few years ago we initiated the project called "Open Night in Český Krumlov galleries". Other galleries joined the project and opened that night for free, which received Krumlov inhabitants´ roaring acceptance. About 500 people, mostly families with children , visited the gallery in about 4 hours. While the entry was for free only for limited time for one day from 8 p.m. till 12 p.m., a new barrier was paradoxly created from the crowded visitors themselves. The exhibition was difficult to be perceived and understood regarding the social dimensions. The aim of the project "Do not knock, it is open" is to make the exhibited projects accessible throughout the exhibition season without time limitation. The form of the project contains festive exhibition openings, talks with the authors, lectures, club evenings, CD,DVD and film projections and active workshops. The organizers aim to bring back to life the phenomenon of Krumlov inhabitant in the mostly tourist centre, in the town of guest houses, hotels and restaurants. It is a pilot project which is to be continually developed. Firstly the project headed to schools which we started to cooperate with previous year and queried their interest. By live culture and creating conditions to make it barrier free we would like to bring back to life the citizen´s interest in his or her town.

LIFE AND WORK OF EGON SCHIELE
Egon Schiele Art Centrum

Since the opening of the Egon Schiele Art Center in 1993, this famous artist has returned to reside in Český Krumlov. Visitors can view a permanent exhibition of his drawings and water-colour paintings, as well as an exhibit documenting the artist's life and work and original Schiele-designed furniture, posthumous mask and the only existing Schiele sculpture.
